I Heart You

You may have been told I heart you before and wondered what I heart you even means. I heart you is basically a funny and cute way of saying I love you or I like you. It is often used by women, but men sometimes use if too. If someone says I heart you to you, then he or she probably thinks you pretty cute, funny, or pretty! It can even be spelled as I <3 you!

When friends say I heart you, they mean that you are someone they can relate to, trust, and have some fun with. Typically, women will tell their friends I heart you more than men would, because women tend to view saying I heart you as a way of expressing friendship as well as romance. However, some men will occasionally say I heart you, but never to a guy friend, only to a girl. A guy should probably avoid being so “cutesy” to a girl by saying it, but that is just our opinion. If a guy says I heart you to another guy he is probably joking. If he texts I heart u, he is still joking!

When a romantic interest says I heart you, it can mean many things. The phrase I heart you conveys sexual interest, romantic attraction, some commitment, and the desire to regularly interact. It is common for teens to say I heart you to their boyfriends and girlfriends, because saying I heart you is a way of saying I love you without being so serious and committed. Since most of these teen relationships will not last anyway, it is probably good that I heart you is said instead of the real thing.

When a relative says I heart you, it means they will be in your life as a family member. Remember: blood is thicker than water, and you should stick with family.

I heart you can be misleading. People will say it, but often not mean it the way another person means it. Some people say it but don’t mean it at all! This is why you need to be very careful if someone throws around the phrase I heart you because to some people it is just a fun phrase that implies friendship, and is not used to mean a person loves you romantically. The magic words I heart you can make some humans do crazy things for others they would not normally do. Because a person says I heart you some lovestruck people will buy that person expensive things, get physically intimate with them, among other bad things. Be very careful of people that say I heart you too soon in a relationship. They may be manipulative or emotionally needy, because even though I heart you is not as serious as the real phrase, it can still be used in a bad way.

Overall, I suggest using I heart you sparingly, so as to not overuse this cutesy, but powerful phrase, I heart you.
